The Department of Surgery has created a Protocol Review Committee to provide scientific review for those protocols that do not have previous review. Resources for Completing Grant Applications


EGMS EGMS (the Electronic Grants Management System) is a series of databases with a Web front-end that you can use to complete proposal forms for submission to sponsors and University forms related to sponsored projects or research.
Researcher's Toolbox Provided by the Office of Clinical Research, the Researcher's Toolbox includes resources for grant-writing.
SPA SPA (Sponsored Projects Administration) is the University of Minnesota's system-wide office authorized to submit research proposals and receive awards from external sources on behalf of the Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota. SPA is also the fiduciary for the U on grant-related matters.

Resources for Conducting Research at the University of Minnesota

eResearch eResearch Central is a central location where researchers and their staff can access the University's electronic research-related documents and forms.
GCRC General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) provides staff and facilities for conducting clinical research at the University.
OCR The Office of Clinical Research (OCR) provides training and support services for conducting clinical and translational research projects, assists investigators in procuring sponsored research funding, increases public awareness and advocacy for clinical and translational research.
OVPR The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) oversees all aspects of research at the University of Minnesota's five campuses, providing guidance to individual researchers and managing the system-wide research enterprise.
Managing Sponsored Projects Manual Managing Sponsored Projects presents vital information regarding the management of sponsored funds at the University of Minnesota and is an essential reference for anyone responsible for such funds at the University.
Oversight Model / Roles and Responsibilities Overall responsibility for submitting proposals and for executing and administering awards tests with the Regents of the University of Minnesota. However, many of these responsibilities are delegated to various units and individuals within the institution.

Utilizing Fairview Resources for Research

Research Administration The Fairview Research Administration Department provides a range of services integral to the research process such as: regulatory support and consulation; contract review and signing; research pricing and billing; and budget development.
E-Form E-Form is Fairview's research electronic pricing system. Prior to creating a budget including Fairview resources, pricing must be obtained from Fairview, and a copy of the quote must be included with the PRF.
Lab Information Fairview has made available on their website normal lab values, certifications, and other information that may be required by funding agencies supporting clinical research.
Access In order to access Fairview Systems, including medical records, non-Fairview employees must complete a request for access form.
Training Fairview-employed Investigators, unaffiliated Investigators and other key personnel conducting research with Fairview patients, records, specimens, systems & resources who are involved with recruiting, consenting or data collection/abstraction must complete the required Investigator Education training. Training must be completed once every three years.
