RESEARCH:

January - May 1988
Participated in developing assay for Cyclosporine A and used this technique to evaluate interactions of Cyclosporine A with various pharmaceuticals.

June - August 1990
Studied left ventricular response to exercise in children (age five through 18) at increased risk for hypertension based on parental medical history. This was a cooperative national study supported by the NIH.

July 1995-June 1996
Evaluating the effects of dietary manipulation (with Omega-3 and Omega-6) on eicosanoid synthesis during experimental sepsis. A new HPLC technique was developed to qualify and quantify Leukotrienes (4 and 5 series) and Prostaglanidins (2 and 3 series) with a single assay. This assay's projected use is to assess human serum production of eicosanoids in control, septic and trauma patients.

Using a developed peritoneal adhesion model in rats, dietary (Omega-3) and pharmaceutical (aspirin and clinoril) manipulation either orally or applied intraperitoneally was compared to controls and Interseed® for gross adhesions, fibroblast and collagen formation.

Assisted in developing a "free pedicle flap" on Sprague-Dawley rats, with further evaluation of polymers effect of nitrous oxide products on wound healing.

January - June 1998
Expanded the previous eicosanoid studies to a human/clinical setting. Perfected the Eicosanoid HPLC assay for human serum sampling. Compared eicosanoid levels in human uninjured controls, trauma patients and patients undergoing hernia surgery (surgical control).

Established an existing spinal cord injury model at AGMC. Comparing the effects of methyprednisilone (gold standard), droperidol, and diltiazem on spinal cord contusions in rats using the spinal cord injury model.

September 1998 - January 2001
Developing protocols and evaluating cost analysis of esophageal doppler monitors compared to Swan-Ganz catheters in coronary
artery bypass surgery and valve replacement surgery.

Evaluating gastric tanometers in patients undergoing elective Aorto-bifemoral bypasses in relation to renal function and outcome.

Clinical studies using inhaled Nitric Oxide in adult patients in the Surgical Critical Care and Cardiac Surgery Units.

January 2001 - present
Restrospective analysis of oropharynx cancer assessment
comparing outcomes of medical (chemotherapy and radiation) versus surgery. Tissue analysis and gene mapping of tonsil and base of tongue cancer.

Evaluation of blood loss and surgical management of carotid body
tumors at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Outcome analysis of anaplastic thyroid cancer with or without
surgery prior to radiation treatment.
