A clear liquid diet will be allowed once the NG tube
is out of the stomach and the bowels begin to work again.
If this is well tolerated, the diet may be advanced. When
enough fluids are tolerated by mouth, the IV line may be
removed.
Gas pain and constipation are not uncommon. Walking and
drinking plenty of fluids will help with these problems.
