Welcome to the Division of Surgical Critical Care

Thank you for your interest in the Surgical Critical Care fellowship program at the University of Minnesota. Our combination of clinical experiences and research opportunities allows fellows to apply new advances in critical care to complicated patients and to approach clinical investigation in a fruitful way.

Our program is aimed at individuals who are committed to careers in trauma or critical care surgery, and who desire to continue their careers as educators and leaders in this field. Individuals participating in the fellowship program complete rotations at four sites encompassing the broad areas of critical care related to surgery—trauma at Regions Hospital, transplantation and complex surgical disease at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, trauma neuro-critical care at North Memorial Medical Center, and geriatric disease at the Minneapolis VA.

Electives at Minneapolis Children's and at our core hospitals, allow fellows to receive additional experience in pediatrics, trauma, echocardiography, neonatal critical care, pulmonary, and other areas of interest.

The program has evolved as critical care has become a focused area of interest and practice in surgical training centers throughout the United States. We have played a leadership role in developing critical care methods and techniques as applied to surgical patients.

From admission to discharge, our patients are assured continuous, excellent care. Our very busy clinical environment is integrated with an academic atmosphere that stimulates and nurtures crucial research and professional development.
